It’s a smaller world than we think

I took this photo of Victor some years ago. He is a Mexican artist and he lived in London at the time. Years later through completely different circumstances I met his partner – although I didn’t know he was related until conversation flowed. The more Victor was described, the more I felt he had to be the same guy I photographed. I sought confirmation and eyebrows have never risen so high on said partner’s forehead. He now lives in Mexico! Funny that.

The grainy image

My photography work is digital now – but when looking back at old 35mm work like this which I used in exhibition makes me wonder whether I should take another look at 35mm. You can apply ‘noise’ in Photoshop but real grain is a difficult one to authentically replicate and it really does have its own special qualities. All I need is access to a photography darkroom and some time….
