Stealing a bride’s moment

Some people reckon that one’s wedding day should be unforgettableā€¦

For one couple it most certainly was. The day arrived and after weeks of rain and storms one could indeed breathe a sigh of relief as the sun shone in the relatively calm and upmarket neighbourhood of Lincolns Inn Fields. The chauffeur arrived in the gorgeous vintage Roller and lets face facts, the couple looked good. So what now could possibly go wrong? What?

Ah yes; choosing to get married in style the very same day the World Naked Bike Ride descends on the square and takes over! The couple stared out of the luxurious gas guzzling limo’s windows askance at the naked, wigged, painted, pierced, and tattooed people that now surrounded them on their bikes, unicycles, and skates all protesting about the worlds reliance on oil. Where they might have liked to wave at the general wellwishers, they got an eyeful of crossbars and genitals, – and why not? They’ll never forget their wedding day. To be perfectly frank they missed a photo opportunity and a half – if they had got out and walked amongst the crowd they could have had some lovely pics for the mother in law’s mantelpiece.ā€¦.so where was that wedding photographer????

The naked protesters cometh

If you were venturing across Waterloo Bridge at about 5pm yesterday afternoon you would have seen hundreds of people cycling in protest butt naked pass by. It’s a good natured event for those on the bikes, and for those watching too. Many of which were Boris bikes I noticed which made me wonder how many of those using them were regular cyclists. The sun was out but the air was cool so maybe it was an ideal day for a naked bike ride…

It’s a smaller world than we think

I took this photo of Victor some years ago. He is a Mexican artist and he lived in London at the time. Years later through completely different circumstances I met his partner – although I didn’t know he was related until conversation flowed. The more Victor was described, the more I felt he had to be the same guy I photographed. I sought confirmation and eyebrows have never risen so high on said partner’s forehead. He now lives in Mexico! Funny that.

The grainy image

My photography work is digital now – but when looking back at old 35mm work like this which I used in exhibition makes me wonder whether I should take another look at 35mm. You can apply ‘noise’ in Photoshop but real grain is a difficult one to authentically replicate and it really does have its own special qualities. All I need is access to a photography darkroom and some time….
